Better Acoustics for Childcare: Meet the New Acoustic Rectangle

As the colder months approach, everyday life in childcare facilities and schools increasingly moves indoors. More playing, learning, talking and eating together in enclosed spaces also means higher noise levels. Arte Viva is therefore expanding its range of acoustic solutions with the new Acoustic Rectangle – a clean-looking sound-absorbing panel designed to help reduce noise and reverberation in spaces used by children.
When temperatures drop and children spend more time indoors, group rooms, classrooms and shared spaces become busier again. Conversations, movement and different activities often take place at the same time, while hard surfaces such as walls, ceilings and floors reflect sound back into the room.
This can create an uncomfortable acoustic environment for both children and staff. The new Acoustic Rectangle helps absorb sound and reduce reverberation, contributing to a calmer and more comfortable environment for learning, playing and communicating.
Good room acoustics are about more than comfort
Good acoustics are particularly important in childcare facilities and schools. Children need to be able to hear and understand speech clearly, while childcare professionals and teachers often spend many hours working in lively environments.
At the same time, these spaces need to support very different activities. Children may be playing and talking together in one area, while another is used for focused learning, eating or quiet activities. Acoustic panels can help by absorbing some of the sound that would otherwise be reflected by hard surfaces, reducing reverberation within the room.
A clean acoustic solution for childcare spaces
With its simple rectangular shape, the Acoustic Rectangle offers a clean-looking acoustic solution for childcare facilities and schools. It helps reduce noise and reverberation while integrating naturally into group rooms, classrooms, play areas, dining spaces and other busy environments. The panels can be installed on walls or suspended from ceilings and arranged individually, in rows or in larger compositions. They can also be combined with other acoustic shapes, allowing facilities to mix clean geometric panels with more playful designs depending on the room.
Each panel measures 110 × 70 × 4 cm / 43.3 × 27.6 × 1.6″ and has a sound absorption value of 0.75. The material consists of 60% recycled polyester and 40% new polyester, giving approximately 55 to 160 PET bottles per square metre a second life. The panels are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, fully recyclable and resistant to UV light, mould, vermin and dust mites. Their clean white color (RAL 9016) makes them easy to integrate into different childcare and educational environments.
Mix and match different acoustic shapes
Not every childcare space looks or functions the same. That is why the Acoustic Rectangle can be used on its own or combined with other acoustic shapes from Arte Viva. While the Rectangle offers a clean and simple look, shapes such as the Acoustic Cloud and Acoustic Bird add a more playful element to childcare interiors. By mixing different shapes, facilities can create an acoustic solution that suits both the function and character of the room – from busy group and play areas to classrooms and quieter spaces.

Autumn check: looking beyond acoustics
The beginning of the indoor season is also a good opportunity to look at childcare and school environments from a wider safety perspective. As children spend more time indoors, potential hazards inside the building become increasingly relevant.
Radiators, for example, become an important consideration once the heating season begins. Hot surfaces and hard edges can pose a risk in areas where children play and move around. Radiator covers can help prevent direct contact with these surfaces and edges.
Facilities can also use the seasonal transition to check whether doors are still fitted with appropriate finger protection, door safety products are working correctly, radiators and hard edges are sufficiently protected, and anti-slip solutions remain securely installed and undamaged.
