Adding Radiator Protection to Existing Buildings – Without Structural Alterations

Many nurseries and schools are located in existing buildings that were not originally designed with the needs of young children in mind. Retrofitting is therefore often the only realistic option – and when it comes to radiators, the question is how effective protection can be added without opening walls, relocating pipes or initiating complex approval procedures.

Retrofitting Radiator Protection in Existing Buildings

The modular Arte Viva Radiator Cover system was developed specifically with this scenario in mind. Rather than being integrated into the heating system itself, the cover is installed as a separate, removable wooden enclosure around the existing radiator. This means the heating technology remains completely untouched, while preventing children from coming into direct contact with hot surfaces and sharp metal edges.

Quick Installation Without Changes to the Heating System

Installation has deliberately been kept simple. The product is cut to fit the individual length of the radiator and can then be installed quickly – making it considerably more straightforward than conventional bespoke solutions, which often involve longer lead times and more complex installation. The construction can also be dismantled and reused, offering a clear advantage when moving, renovating or changing the use of a room.

Maintaining Airflow and Heating Performance

The design also takes the requirements of existing buildings into account when it comes to ventilation. Openings in the wooden cover allow heat to continue circulating freely throughout the room, meaning no adjustments to the heating system are required. An optional version with a ten-centimetre opening at floor level is also available to further improve airflow – particularly useful for older radiators with more limited heating capacity.

A Practical Solution for Schools and Nurseries

For facility managers, this means that radiator protection can generally be installed independently of larger renovation projects. An on-site measurement of the existing radiators is all that is needed to receive a suitable, individually tailored quotation – without making any structural alterations to the building.
